Kubernetes Resources: 3 Risks to Not Optimizing K8s Strategy Training

The Average K8s Node Is Less Than 10% Utilized*

One of the greatest challenges to Kubernetes-managed containers is the realization that choosing the right container resource settings has a huge impact on efficiency and risk, and that these settings don’t magically manage themselves.

There are three primary reasons why container environments require continuous resource optimization:

  1. Containers don’t have virtual resources: the “request” values are actual resources, not virtual, and cannot be allocated out beyond the capacity of the nodes
  2. Containers can get killed if there is resource pressure: providing specifications that are too low can cause containers to be terminated
  3. Cloud autoscaling does not automatically adjust to container resource usage: K8s nodes are bound by the allocated resources, not the used resources, and the node types often don’t align with the actual container requirements

Watch this training video and get strategies to help you avoid and overcome this resource optimization challenge and to learn about capacity operations, a continuous approach to managing container resources.
