Your Cloud Advisor will review your private and public cloud environments from time-to-time and provide detailed analysis and strategic insight on how to optimize and de-risk them.

Accessing Insights from the Toolbar

Advisor insight notifications and links are available from the advisor insight icon () in the toolbar.

The total number of unread insights posted in Densify is indicated by a red number on the advisor insight icon () in the toolbar. Click on the icon to display the Advisor Insight Notification dropdown window, which provides the number of unread posted insights broken down by platform, billing analysis, and transform to cloud functionality. The name and email of your assigned Cloud Advisor is also displayed. If you have more than one Cloud Advisor, the person who posted the latest insight is shown.

  • Click on one of the insight categories to open the Advisor Insight page for that category. The red number indicates the number of unread insights for the category. Once the Advisor Insight page is displayed, the unread indicators are removed for the insights viewed (if unread tracking is enabled). See Viewing and Addressing Advisor Insight for details of the Advisor Insight page.
  • Click on the Cloud Advisor's email to communicate with your designated advisor.

Note: The unread indicator for Private Cloud in the Advisor Insight Notification dropdown window is affected by the applied global filter. See Using the Global Filter for details. All unread indicators for other advisor insight categories in the Advisor Insight Notification dropdown are not affected by filters.

Accessing Insights from Public Cloud

Unread public cloud insights posted in Densify are indicated by a light bulb icon with a red count next to the cloud systems or catalog instance associated with the insight. Click on the icon to display the Advisor Insight window with details of the posted insight. See Viewing and Addressing Advisor Insight for details of the Advisor Insight page or window.

Advisor insight indicators and links are available from the following public cloud reports:

  • Public Cloud > Optimization Overview—Unread public cloud insights posted in Densify are indicated next to the cloud systems or catalog instance associated with the insight in the Optimization Overview tabular report.
  • Public Cloud > specific cloud platform > cloud service optimization opportunity report—Unread insight indicators are located next to the associated systems or catalog instance in the various optimization opportunity tabular reports (i.e. AWS EC2, GCP Compute Engine, Azure Virtual Machines, etc.).
  • Public Cloud > specific cloud platform > specific cloud service > Instance Optimization Details report—Unread public cloud insights are located next to the associated system name or catalog instance type in the drill down Instance Optimization Details tabular report.
  • Public Cloud > specific cloud platform > Advisor Insight—All advisor insights for a specific cloud platform are displayed on this page. This page is also displayed when you click on the specific public cloud platform link from the Advisor Insight Notification toolbar dropdown.

Note: You can use guest or recommendation filters to display specific system groups in the supported public cloud reports. Unread insights for systems filtered out will not be visible from the cloud reports, but their counts are still included in the unread indicator from the Advisor Insight toolbar. See Using the Guest Filter or Using the Recommendation Filter Menu for more details on configuring and using these filters.

Accessing Insights from Private Cloud

Advisor insights for private cloud are posted against a particular cluster, host or VM. Unread private cloud insights posted in Densify are indicated by a light bulb icon with a red count on the panel with the associated cluster, host, or VM. Click on the icon to open the Advisor Insight window with posted insight details. The insight indicator for the panel is cleared once insights are viewed from the Advisor Insight window. See Viewing and Addressing Advisor Insight for details of the Advisor Insight page or window.

Advisor insight indicators and links are available from the following private cloud areas:

  • Private Cloud > Virtual Environments > Risk—Unread insights are indicated on the top right corner of the Cluster with Insufficient Capacity, Hosts at Risk, and Undersized Guests panels.
  • Private Cloud > Virtual Environments > Opportunity—Unread advisor insights are indicated on the top right corner of the Cluster Capacity, Stacking Ratio Optimization, and Windows License Optimization panels.
  • Private Cloud > Virtual Environments > Advisor Insight—All advisor insights for private cloud are displayed on the Virtual Environment > Advisor Insight page. This page is also displayed when you click on the Private Cloud link from the Advisor Insight Notification toolbar dropdown.

Note: You can use the global filter to display system groups defined by a specific scope. See Using the Global Filter for more details on configuring and using the global filter.

Accessing Insights from Billing Analysis

Advisor insight notifications and links are available from the following billing areas:

  • Billing Analysis > Cost Summary—Advisor insights are indicated on the filmstrip viewer. Insights are posted against a month, but the filmstrip viewer can be viewed by month, quarter or year containing that month.
  • Billing Analysis > Advisor Insight—Advisor insights are posted against a particular cost summary month.

Accessing Insights from Tranform to Cloud

Advisor insight notifications and links are available from the following transform to cloud areas:

  • Demand Planning > Transform to Cloud > Advisor Insight—All transform to cloud insights are listed on this page. The Transform to Cloud link from the Advisor Insight Notification toolbar dropdown also opens the Transform to Cloud > Advisor Insight page.
  • Demand Planning > Transform to Cloud > Move Groups—Advisor insight posted for a Move Group is indicated by a light bulb icon next to the Move Group label. Click on the light bulb icon to open the Advisor Insight window with details of the posted insight.

Viewing and Addressing Advisor Insight

When you click on the Advisor Insight tab from a specific public or private cloud environment, the Advisor Insight page is displayed containing detailed analysis and strategic insight from your assigned Cloud Advisor.

When you click on the unread insight light bulb icon from a Densify report, the Advisor Insight popup window is displayed containing detailed analysis and strategic insight for the specific system, group, or catalog instance next to the icon.

Both the Advisor Insight tab page and popup window contain insight items with the following information:

  • Each insight contains the name of the Cloud Advisor and when it was posted. The items that are unread and not completed are at the top of the list, sorted by date, with the newest items at the top. Completed items are listed below and are also sorted by date.
  • The number displayed within the light bulb icon indicates the number of advisor insights posted, but not yet read, on a per user basis. Once you click on the light bulb icon or view those insights through an Advisor Insight page or popup window, the insight items are considered read and the light bulb icon is cleared. If another user, who has not seen the insight items, logs in, then the light bulb icon is displayed until this user, also reviews the insight items. New insight items are automatically created with unread tracking enabled. However, Cloud Advisors can define insight items without unread tracking enabled. In this situation, the unread light bulb count will always be displayed for available insights, regardless if they are read.
  • Each posted item is identified by the type of strategic insight it provides:

  • After reviewing the posted insight, you can reply to a specific insight by clicking on the Reply button next to it. An email is opened to initiate communication with the advisor who owns the insight. From this point forward, all communication with respect to that insight is done through emails.
  • Once an insight item has been addressed or is no longer a concern, you can mark it completed by clicking on the Complete button. A Completion Comment popup is displayed to allow you to enter a comment. Once an item is complete, the Completed By and Completion Date fields are appropriately updated, and the Notes field is appended with your completion comments.
  • Once an item is complete, it is considered complete for all users. Completed items have the Reply and the Complete button disabled in the Advisor Insight page or window. In addition, the unread insight indicators are cleared for completed items, for all users.

    Note: Insight items can be defined with the Complete button disabled, so not all items can be completed.

  • Once an insight item is completed, it can then be deleted by the Cloud Advisor who posted it.

Posting Advisor Insight Items

Only the Cloud Advisor can post, edit and delete insight items.
